TV troubleshooting should stop at the rear cover. You can inspect external cables, settings, and connected devices, but internal parts can retain hazardous electrical energy after the television is unplugged.
Stop using the TV when
- you see smoke, sparks, a damaged power cord, or liquid inside the set;
- you smell burning plastic or insulation;
- the plug, cord, or cabinet becomes unusually hot; or
- the screen or cabinet is cracked badly enough to expose internal parts.
Turn the TV off, unplug it if that can be done safely, and keep it disconnected until it is inspected.
Safe checks you can make
Confirm the outlet, power cord, selected input, external cables, source device, mute setting, and audio output. Use the model's manual for restart steps and built-in diagnostics. Change one thing at a time and write down the result.
Do not remove the rear cover
Rubber gloves or shoes do not make internal TV work safe. Do not touch capacitors, power boards, or exposed wiring. Do not bend connectors or use a tool inside the cabinet while the set is connected to power.
Move a television carefully
Use two people for a large set. Keep the screen upright, protect the panel from pressure, and hold the cabinet by stable edges or the transport points described by the manufacturer. Remove an unstable stand only by following the model's instructions.
Prepare for service
Bring the model number, symptoms, photos of visible damage, and any error or blinking-light pattern. Ask how the shop wants the set transported before bringing in a large television.
